Professor Joshua Mok, Vice-President of Lingnan University and Dean of Lingnan's Graduate School, was invited to give a talk at the Hong Kong Public Key Infrastructure Forum Conference 2021. The topic of the conference, which was organised by the Hong Kong Public Key Infrastructure Forum Limited (HKPKIF), was "Evolution and Localization of Public Key Infrastructure and Digital Identity – Digital Trust Ecosystem". The conference, which took place on 12 January 2021, was presented in person and online, and was attended by an audience of more than 100. Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) members from Hong Kong, and experts from the US, shared and promoted the concepts of secured digital PKI infrastructure and the relevance of Decentralized-ID (DID) technology for the implementation of digital identity so as to help reopen businesses, speed up public services, streamline KYC and financial transactions, and connect students with employers.

 

Professor Mok’s talk was entitled “The Societal and Educational Impact of DID for Hong Kong as a Smart City”. During his presentation, Professor Mok shared unique insights on the future of digital identity adoption and implementation. He also discussed how Lingnan University plans to develop into a Smart Campus by utilizing smart technologies to connect to the internet, and by using AI-driven algorithms to create new experiences and services for its staff and students. Professor Mok added that Lingnan University will establish new professional courses in FinTech, Blockchain, Decentralized-ID (DID) / Self-Sovereignty-ID (SSI), Legal Entity Identifier (LEI), and Smart City executive training, and will also organise international conferences, seminars, exhibitions and webinars. Professor Mok also talked about the need for CCPC, that is, nurturing Certified Caring Professionals with Connectivity through digital transformations.

 

The conference was supported by the HKSAR Government and major representatives of industry and commerce, along with Lingnan University. Mr Alfred Sit, JP, Secretary for Innovation and Technology, and Dr Bernard Chan, JP, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development also gave speeches at the event.
